When the narrator tells the djinn that it would be more appropriate for the djinn to be a man, the djinn replies: "'Perfect beauty is to be found only in woman'" (1140).
Do you agree with the djinn's statement?

I absolutely agree with the djinn that “Perfect beauty is to be found only in woman”. When we look at woman and man we can see the obvious anatomical differences. But, when we look at the behavior of man and woman and the major role they play in their family and the society we can see a big difference between the two genders. When we look at their sexuality women are more sensitive and more emotional than men. All women like to be respected, loved and complemented about their beauty by their loved one. I am not saying that men don’t like these things but what I am trying to say is, women are more sensitive to these things than men. Perfect beauty is a women’s outside look and her inside emotional feelings.
ReplyDeleteI would have to disagree with the author’s statement. It is evident that she was oppressed in some form during her life, probably constantly subjected to sexism. The author describes beauty as solely superficial; she fails to take into context the abstraction of beauty. Depending on one’s definition of beauty, her argument may not hold, especially when she only considers “perfect beauty is to be found only in woman.” If beauty is merely skin-deep, then love itself would cease to exist as we age. We love people not because of their physical beauty, but rather the beauty of their character. However, that is not to say that physical appearances are not taken into account, but the absurd argument that flawless beauty is only to be found in women is clearly a sexist and unjustified argument.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with Dev[PM]! It depends on how you define beauty and it seems as though the author finds beauty in womens anatomy or characteristics. Beauty is much like art, there is no one thing that holds the definition for beauty. It depends on the viewers taste.
ReplyDeleteI think the way we see things are much different to how we describe things. We can look at beauty in many ways we look at women. Djinn says beauty is only to be found in women, but what are his standards for beauty towards women. I have to disagree with his quote. I find cars and alot stuff to be beautiful, but I don't put it on the spot saying only thisis beautiful, and can be found here.
ReplyDeleteI don't agree with the point of the Djinn. Different people have the different opinion, Robert Mapplethorpe was the one who show the most powerful and beautiful view from man. Mapplethorpe was one of the most controversial human masters, and also he is a gay and died for AIDS. because of his special status and experience. we can see the beautiful way from his photograph
