My World of the Unknown #5

Rifaat is a Muslim, a member of the religion Islam, which is known, in conservative areas, for its strict view on sexuality, particularly relating to women. Many women are required to wear a burqa, a robe that covers the body from head to toe. Sex is so taboo that even discussing it can lead to censure or punishment. Knowing this, Rifaat decided to write this story anyway. Do you think many people in the Muslim world would be bothered by this story?

  1. It can imagine that this story could be uncomfortable for a reader from an Islamic community. According to my knowings,
it is a common situation that marriages happen as arranged. Therefore, the couple is not in love before the actual wedding.
Can a woman be sexually and emotionally satisfied? I do not think so and this story reveals the truth.

It is important to get to know each others' intimacy as well,
otherwise a woman feels ignored and her desires will never be met.

  2. I think some traditional people in the Muslim world would be bothered by this story. They don't want to discuss more about sex openly, and they think it is sin, but actually, the story reveals a truth, even though most traditional people in the Muslim world want to cover it. I think educated Muslim people can understand and easily accept this story, but it doesn't mean totally agree with that since they still insist holding their believes bravely.

  3. I agree with the opinion of gabrielasedova. There should be a group of stubborn people in the Muslim world feel vexed from this story. But I think Rifaat did a good job for their community because even though this story bothered the Islam, it can made them at least know that they should treat men and women equally, no matter in any portions of life, such as sex, life quality.
As gabrielasedova said, "It is important to get to know each others' intimacy as well." yes, that is very significant for the human being, but for the Islam women are a desired. As I know, Islam consider women are filthy, so when they are very young, they have to cover the body to head to toe in a dark color mostly. It is very unfair and unbelievable for those Islam women, but they have to accept it. So, this story is like big sharp words to wake the Islam community up, and tell them should release the Islam women.

  4. I certainly do believe that many conservative people in the Muslim world would be bothered by this story because of the sexuality as mentioned. There are many factors in this story that may build upon the tension that these readers might have. Not only does the story refer to sexual experiences, but specifically these experiences involve homosexual bestiality with a spirit of the Qur'an. These ideas cross a lot of lines and taboos.

  5. Those Muslim people must hesitate to read the story according to taboo, shame and punishment. By knowing this, the authur still wrote the story. Maybe, there are some people will reach this story with curiosity and then share to people around quietly. Then her idea can be sent out.
