Daru treats the Arab as an equal not like a prisoner or a criminal. He shows this by untying the rope around his wrists and offering him a cup of tea. In addition, Daru addresses him directly as an equal, not in a demeaning way. On the other hand Balducci acts hostile towards the Arab, insists on Daru taking him to the police. He even suggests that Daru keep his shotgun near him at all times.
Balducci treated the Arab as if he was nothing; he barely took any direct action towards him. Balducci had no personal interest in the Arab, for he didn't care about what would happen to him as long as he completed his job. Daru treated the Arab like any other person. They shared a room that night, and he realized that men who share rooms "develop a strange alliance" (823). He gave the prisoner food, money and shelter. Daru provided for the prisoner while Balducci was just doing a job.
I agree with both Isaac7600 and Gwen, Balducci treats the Arab like an animal where as Daru acknowledges him as a human being. Balducci labeled the Arab man as nothing more than a criminal and murderer. He was fearful that the Arab might harm him so he kept his distance. On the other hand, Daru gave the Arab a chance to prove his qualities. Daru looked into the man's eyes and saw that he was a human being and so he was treated as one. In return, the Arab gave Daru the same respect that he had been given.
Daru treats the Arab like he was actually human. He offered him kindness and respect (offering him food, setting up his bed place, showing him to the bathroom, and even trusting him when he walked out in the middle of the night) unlike Balducci whom treated the Arab like a slave. Balducci is selfish, he doesn't care about how the Arab feels as long as his task is complete.
The Arab treats the captive like a possession; he ties him up and does not acknowledge him directly. The Arab has a job to do and he does not allow himself to get physically, mentally, or emotionally attached to his “tasks”. Daru sees the captive as a person, he questions to try to figure out why he committed his crime, he acknowledges him directly and allows him to move freely.
Balducci treated the Arab like a job that he had to complete. for him, the Arab is an evil hearless, salvage criminal that he need to tie up and deliver to the police. all he cares for is finishing his duty. on the other hand, Daru treated the Arab more like a person. he offered tea for both Balducci and the Arab. he let the prisoner eat the same food at he does, and he even make bed for the prisoner to sleep in. also,Daru give the Arab the opportunity to escape by giving him food and money.
Daru treats Arab equal as Balducci because he think they are all the customers. When they arrived, Daru treats them friendly, give them some mint tea, and brought a chair, even if Daru know Arab is a prisoner. However, Balducci as a gendarme, he treats Arab carefully. Let Arab holding his bound wrists in front of him, when Balducci drinks a cup of tea he makes a rope tying him to Arab, and let Arab squatted near the stove. He is afraid Arab will be fled.
Daru is a nice guy who treat others as same-- both Balducci and the Arab are his guests. He eat and even sleep in the same room with the Arab. He was trying to help the Arab and trying to being nice to a "prinsoner". However, Balducci just doesn't care about the Arab. What he want to do is just finish the job and rest of it -- other's life, other's feeling is nothing to him. On the other hand, Daru trust the Arab, he treat him as friend but Balducci just "tie up" the Arab and treat him as animal who is tring to escape every second.
Daru treat the Arab just like any other human being, or as a friend that’s why Daru take a good care of the Arab. Daru also trust, and offer foods, make bed for the Arab, he even let the Arab to walk around in the middle of the night. Unlike Balducci, he treats the Arab like some kinds of heartless murderer, a criminal, that’s why he always keeps his distant from the Arab. He rather ties the Arab up and hand them over to the police and let the Arab to be prisoner.
Well, Balducci has been treating the Arab as a prisoner, so made him walk with tied hands all the way through the desert till the hills where the schoolmaster lives. While he was riding the horse the prisoner was behind tied and pulled by Balducci. Instead, for Daru the Arab was considered as a guest not as a prisoner, in fact, he did not want to even show him that he by any means would hand him to the authority but give the choice to the Arab to make.
I felt that Daru treated the Arb as just another regular person. he treat him with respect as another person should treat everybody. He also seem to treat him as if he was one of his kin.Daru kinds knew what was to be the fate of the arb that he was defensive and protective of him. Balducci show no respect he seen the Arb as prisoner and he wanted the arb soon the he could turn him in. Balducci didny really care about what would happen to the arb.He also treat the arb as if he had no choice with his own life or what was to become of him.
Daru treated the Arab like a guess not a prisoner especially after he knew Arab is an Algerian insurgent. He unshackled him, made him a tea, dinner, and a comfortable bed. More than that he tried to let him escape at night and let him make a choice either go to police or freedom next day for his brotherhood. However, Balducci treated Arad like a crime. In his mind, Arad was a very dangerous person because he killed a man, so he kept two weapons while he was with Arad. Also before he left, he tried to leave a gun to Daru to avoid Arab escape.
Balducci did not respect the Arab as a person. He did not care about the Arab's life and he just did his job. He just treated the Arab as an assingmnet he should fulfill. However, Daru was different. He treated and respected the Arab as a person. He untied the Arab's wrist surrounded by the robe and gave the Arab tea. He also provided food and shelter to the Arab.
