  1. The setting of the story takes place in a school house, which is traditionally used as a place for education or to learn. Here the setting ties in with the conflict of the story, which is yet again to learn, but specifically to learn about the nature of people. Daru was open-minded about the Arab man in the beginning and gave him man a chance to prove his qualities. There in the school house Daru learned that the Arab man was not violent and/or dangerous as Balducci made him to be. Instead, the man was rather obedient and honorable as he did not attempt to escape nor did he try to harm Daru in anyway.
