  2. The story titled “Class” because it relates to racial differences. Throughout the story, the languages, emotion and actions of the characters contrast clearly demonstrate the distinction of characters had in two different ethnic groups. The story narrates how a Native American man (Edgar Runner, Indian) married to a white woman struggled with everyday marriage problems and wondered where he belongs to find true-happiness.

  3. Because this story is talking about social class, so the author uses “Class” as the title.

Edgar is a lawyer, a middle-class in America, but he is also an Indian, and Indians are usually considered as the lower class, so, through the whole story, Edgar is struggling for figuring out which class he should belong to.

  4. The main problem is cause by the difference between the America party and India party. "Class" simple and powerful engouh to point out the issue. Author is stuck between two classes and confusing about which class he belong to. Susan's family don't accept him, he can't find a Indian prostitude showing that he doesn't quite belong to America class. However, the fight between him and Junior, the conversation between him and sissy showing that he doesn't quite belong to India class neither.

  5. Sherman Alexie title his story Class is trying to make a specific example to describe and show the different classes in the society. Class is the main point of issue in this story; therefore the different level and different ethnicity of people that be known as different class.

  6. When I saw the title at the first time, I thought it talk about study. but it is not, it talk about the different level in social relationship. there two different racial and class in the story, one is America, the other is Native America. The story show that how this two different class people face the problem for culture and education when they get alone with each other.

  7. my impression of the title implied the sociological differences in the word 'class'. There's an impact to class in that it correlates to power and privilege. I simply see it as a pyramid, a system if you will. Any one individual can experience privilege, but not others. We can be privileged to a certain ethnic group, but become oppressed by our class status, or ability status.

  8. The reason why this story is titled as "Class" is that this story talks about the two different kinds and levels of groups, American (White people) group and the Native American group. The author let me think about the real meaning of "class". Edgar Eagle Runner, a Native American is a lawyer, which was considered as the high class in American society. He marries to a white woman and he feels like he lives in a white world. However, he struggles with everyday marriage problems with his wife and wonders where he belongs to.

  9. class say's a lot. It defintely caught my attention. Even though he had class he still felt as if something was missing out of life.Just because people have a higher statue doesn't mean they can't socialize with someone of a lower statue. He want us to be friends with a person for who they are and what you like about them beside how much money or what culture they are from or where they live.

  10. In the United States, people are divided in three different classes, upper (rich), lower (poor) and middle class. The story is titled “Class” because the story is about Native American Edger search for his class in the society. When Edger is with his lawyer friends he acted like upper class and his life with his wife is middle class. None of those life styles made him happy so he tried to get acceptance by Native Americans but he was rejected because he was not from their class and they don’t want any thing to do with him

  11. This short story is titled Class because standing on a certain class on the social ladder really determines how you act and think. For the narrator, he was probably high middle class and the fact that he married a white woman made him stood a little more higher on the rung. Because of his situation and the fact that he was a laywer, society made it so that you are suppose to act like your class. For instance if you are high or upper middle class you are suppose to be polite, well mannered, formal etc (bs), or if you are lower class you are not polite, lousy, etc. Class plays an important role in this story because it shows how the narrator is confused about his real identity. Throughout the story he was shifting himself up and down the social ladder, trying to figure out who he really was. He went from upper middle class to lower class.

  13. The authors used “class”, in order to better able to express a central idea of the article. The reader with concise words left a deep impression on him. Also allow readers to easily understand the author's main idea to why he needed to write this article. Through the description of the story, as Edgar is a lawyer, a middle-class in the United States. , as an Indian, described his feelings in such a, let the reader feel more profound social differences. More give readers more interested in the article.

  14. The article is revolve mainly around one theme -- class, so one word "class" is enough to say it all. Because the author Sherman Alexei is an Indian-American, a lawyer, and married with a white wife. He is a native American and lives with his wife in a white world. But actually, his outlook is Indian, which is different from white. So, sometimes he is confuse with his racial identity whether he is white or Indian.Which is his ethnic identity? Also, in the society, people will be classified into several different class, working class, middle class, and high class. So,these two class questions are always and will still come up in the author's life and his marriage.

  15. This story titled as "class" because it is about how the people's actions, motions change while they are in different racial and society class. 16. I think there are two meaning of the title. First, the class level of the life. In the story, the narrator is in the upper class. He is rich and have a good family. However, he does not enjoy in this situation because all the people around him are not Indian. Therefore, he wants to find someone who can understand him. He goes and finds the Indians who are in the bar. However, those Indian are not same as him. They are poor and everyone does not have a wealthy and healthy family. so they think the narrator is showing off his wealth. Second, the class is a meaning of his experience. After he fight with Junior, I think he really get in pain and learning something from this. When he goes back to his home, I think he feels release and he understands where should he goes and who is he. In the whole story, he is finding his identity and the reason that he lives. Because of his wealth and his success, he does not have any achievements already. Therefore, he lost and he wants to find out the purpose of his life.

  17. The story is titled class to make a point that the social ladder plays a strong influential role in dictating an individual’s behavior depending on their position on the social ladder. However the social standing and how an individual ought to act deceives and confuses the person. They forget who they truly are, masking themselves and pretending to be someone they are not in front of people. The narrator was shifting up and down the ladder attempting to figure out his true identity.

  18. The story is title as " Class " because the author wants to pint out that even though Edgar was Indian who married a white woman, but others Indian who actually rather live in his world while edgar dislike the world he is living. the author wants point out, in the same race, there will be differnent clas that people love to be and class that people wants to get rid of.

  19. "Class" is the main point, main topic of this story. Each of the characters is representing a stratum in the society. The story is about the conflict between protagonist and different kind of people.
    Therefore "Class" is the title.

  20. By class, I think Sherman Alexie was referring to the different levels of class or social standards that existed in this world. Edgar was caught in this world not knowing his right place. He used to enjoy telling white women that he is part Aztec and even full Aztec to a few. However, this wasn’t because he was proud of who he is but only because he thought that would make him somewhat more interesting than telling them the he is just a smart kid that “fought his way off the Spokane Indian Reservation in Washington State and was now a corporate lawyer in Seattle who pretended to have a lot more money than he did.” However, even though he had become a layer, we can see that he is still not up to the standards of Susan’s family to be able to be good enough for her. When Susan’s brother heard that they were engaged, he told her, “why do you want to share a checking account?” This shows that there are more divisions than just upper class and lower class. When he goes to Chuck’s he realizes that even though he was among his own people, he doesn’t belong there. Therefore I think Alexie titled this story Class to express the different levels of standards there are in life.
